Kansas City homebuyers now need six figures to afford a house

Last week, the Kansas City Business Journal (KCBJ) posted an article on how “home prices in the Kansas City area have risen 23.9 percent since 2019, mirroring a national trend of skyrocketing home prices, according to recent Realtor.com data.” The article states that as of April, “the median listing price in the Kansas City area was $399,450, higher than many Midwestern metro areas, including Milwaukee ($385,000), Chicago ($372,450) and Indianapolis ($329,211).”

The KCHBA works with cities around the region in an effort to balance wants vs. needs. By proactively engaging in discussions related to codes, permitting and other building-related items, we continually strive to build safer, more efficient homes while also being mindful of the consumer’s ability to afford the home.
